Cyprus Spring flowers

Cyprus Spring flowers

Spring is considered the season of love. Here, there, and everywhere. But especially in Cyprus. When the most beautiful season of the year arrives, the island becomes a festival of colours and perfumes, which last until the arrival of summer.

The first to bloom are the wildflowers, which begin to shine in different island corners along with the almond trees. A wide range of colours awakens the senses of the island's inhabitants. For example, the towns and villages near the Troodos Mountains become the perfect starting points for the best excursions on nature trails that shine like they do not at any other time of the year. These walks are an invitation for our senses to travel to another dimension.

As we all know, the island is a holiday destination par excellence, and many tourists take advantage of their visits to visit the different national parks that Cyprus has. This allows us to enjoy beautiful views where colours and perfumes play to confuse our senses. Different species populate the slopes of the mountains, where natural forests shine uniquely. There are various pines, cedars, dwarf oaks, alders, Mediterranean cypress, and junipers, all in a concert of colours where wildflowers play their chromatic game.

The cities The different towns of the island are not strangers to this festival that spring offers. Hundreds of houses, villas and apartment buildings show off with the care of their gardens and surrounding areas. In many cases, with plants and wildflowers, in others with different ornamental varieties that decorate each home.

There are even luxurious properties that seem to compete with the beauty of their parks, where you can find a wide variety of trees, plants, and flowers. Precisely, a fact to consider is when it is convenient for us to know a property that we want to buy or rent. A real estate agent explained to us that the best investment opportunities come in the spring and summer. In this period, the properties offered on the Cyprus marketplace are shining like never, which helps us make a better decision.

Returning to the flowers, we have selected characteristic flowers of the island that we can find in Cyprus. Probably the best known is the Cyclamen cyprium, also known as Cyprus cyclamen. It is considered the national flower of the island. Its flowering occurs from November to March and grows mainly in mountainous areas.

The exact detail is the shape of its leaves, which resemble hearts. Meanwhile, the petals are pale pink and have magenta streaks on their edges. Another well-known flower is the Cyprus tulip. It is one of the strangest flowers on the island.

It is protected specially and is exceedingly difficult to find. Its flowering occurs between March and April, and it grows no more than 40 centimetres in height. Its dark red colour is very striking, and it is accompanied by large leaves that emerge from the lower end of the stem. Also noteworthy is the presence of Alyssum Akamasicum, which flourishes mainly in the town of Paphos.

Of this species, it is believed that there are only three thousand varieties, so it is a very vulnerable species. Another flowering plant that we must consider is the Bosea Cypria. Its flowering occurs from April to July, and we can find it on the side of cliffs or stone walls. In most cases, it is awfully close to the sea.

We close this chapter with the Ophrys kotschyi, which is nothing more than a wild orchid native to the island. It is mainly found in grasslands and open spaces. Like other species, it is threatened and is protected by International Conservation Organizations.
